Workshop on Quality in Databases (QDB'08)

FOCUS
The term "data and information quality" denotes, in a broad sense, a set
of properties of the data that indicate various types of error conditions.
The ability to detect and correct these errors is critical to the functionality
of a large number of applications, in areas ranging from business management to
data-intensive science. In addition to the technical issues associated with
error management, data consumers are also faced with decisions regarding the
quality levels appropriate for their application, and therefore with a
trade-off between accepting the presence of errors, and the cost of detecting
and correcting them. While these issues have been known for quite some time,
novel applications still pose original challenges, while advances in data
management technology offer ideas for novel approaches.
Building on the established tradition of 5 previous international workshops
on the topic of Data and Information Quality, namely IQIS 2004-2006,
CleanDB 2006 and QDB�??07, the Quality in Databases (QDB) workshop is a
qualified forum for presenting and discussing novel ideas and
solutions related to the problems of assessing, monitoring, improving, and
maintaining the quality of data. Specific topics include, but are not
limited to, the following:
- Duplicate detection / entity resolution
- Quality-aware query languages
- Quality-aware query processing techniques
- Quality of information on the Web
- User-centric and user-defined quality models
- Information Quality management in scienti�?c, geographical, and mul-
timedia databases
- Role of metadata in quality measurement
- Privacy-preserving data quality management
- Data quality in multi-database settings
- Data scrubbing / data standardization
- Data quality benchmarks
- Data quality assessment / measures
- Data quality models and algebra
FORMAT AND PAPER SUBMISSION
The main aim of the workshop is to offer participants a venue for stimulating
discussions and comparison of methods and approaches. In line with this open
intent, in addition to previously unpublished material the program commitee
welcomes paper submissions that include ideas and material that may have
appeared elsewhere, insofar as they are judged to be a sound and valuable
contribution to the discussion.
In addition, papers that contain completely original material may be
recommended for fast-tracking to the ACM Journal of Data and Information Quality
(JDIQ) (http://oldwww.acm.org/pubs/periodicals/jdiq/)
In case of paper acceptance, the authors agree that at least one of them
will register for the workshop and present the paper.
Submissions must be in the standard VLDB format and should not exceed 10 pages.
Detailed instructions on the web-based submission process, along with
the workshop web site, will appear in a follow-up CFP.
