As Technical Chair for the 34th IEEE PVSC, I welcome you and thank you for your interest in our conference. I am committed to establishing PV as the energy source of choice for our planet. Present social, economic, and scientific conditions clearly indicate that this is essential for our survival, and as such, we are in an historically unique position to make this happen now. I invite you to join me in this commitment by contributing to the technical content of the PVSC. By maintaining the PVSC Technical Program as the premiere, international PV technical venue, we will continue to advance the scientific front of PV in this most critical time.

We encourage abstracts summarizing original research in all PV technologies, and following the typical PVSC format, sessions for the 34th IEEE PVSC are organized into nine major areas, as listed on the next page. Note that Area 8, Terrestrial Systems has been restored to the program. Each major area is subdivided into a number of sub-areas to facilitate the review process, as well as the final organization of oral and poster sessions.

Beginning October 1, 2008, you may electronically submit a short text abstract and a detailed preliminary paper (up to three pages, including figures and tables) by logging onto our Web site at http://www.34pvsc.org/. Click on "Submit Your Abstract/Manuscript Online" and follow the directions.

The deadline for electronic abstract submission is December 1, 2008. Contributing authors will be notified of the acceptance of their papers following the meeting of the Program Committee in the third week of January, 2008.

To ensure IEEE Xplore®-compliant proceedings, submit your abstracts and manuscripts electronically through the Web site. If you are unable to submit your material electronically, please contact Brent Nelson as soon as possible for instructions:
